What Iris stores
Everything you enter, such as period dates, symptoms, mood, temperatures, tests, notes, medications and settings, is stored on your iPhone in the app's private storage. The widgets read a short summary (cycle day, phase and days until your next period) from storage that only Iris and its widgets can access, on the same phone.
Iris has no account system and no servers of its own. It contains no analytics or tracking SDKs.
iCloud backup (optional)
If you sign in with Apple in the Profile tab, Iris backs up your data to your own iCloud account using Apple's iCloud key-value storage. It moves between your devices through Apple. I can't see it.
Sign in with Apple gives Iris an anonymous user ID, and your name only if you choose to share it, which is used to greet you. Iris does not ask for your email address.
If you don't sign in, nothing is backed up and your data exists only on your iPhone.
Apple Health
If you connect Apple Health, Iris reads and writes period flow, basal body temperature, ovulation tests and cervical mucus, and reads weight and sleep to fill in your daily log. You choose which types to allow, and you can change that at any time in the Health app.
Data from Apple Health stays on your device, plus your own iCloud backup if you turned that on. It is never shared with third parties, never used for advertising, and never sold.
Partner sharing (optional)
When you turn on partner sharing, Iris encrypts a short summary on your iPhone (your phase, cycle day, predictions, a daily tip, and your mood and symptoms only if you switch those on) and stores the encrypted copy in Apple's CloudKit. The key is part of the code you give your partner, so only someone with that code can read it. Apple can't read it, and neither can I.
When you stop sharing or make a new code, the stored copy is deleted.
Ads
The free version shows banner and full-screen ads from Google AdMob. Iris asks AdMob for non-personalised ads only. AdMob may still collect device identifiers and approximate location to serve and measure ads, as described in Google's ad policy. AdMob never receives your cycle, symptom, mood or Apple Health data.
A one-time purchase removes all ads. From version 2.6.6, Iris then no longer starts AdMob at all. In earlier versions the AdMob software still started with the app, so Google could receive basic device information even with ads removed.
Other connections
| Feedback | If you send feedback from the app, your message, the contact detail you choose to add, and the app version are delivered to Iris support, through a private Telegram bot or by email. Nothing is sent unless you press send. |
|---|---|
| Update check | Iris downloads a small file from GitHub to see whether an important update is available. It sends no personal data, though GitHub, like any web server, sees the request. |
| Purchases | Purchases are handled by Apple. Iris only learns whether ads have been removed. |
| Reminders | Notifications are scheduled on your iPhone. Nothing about them is sent anywhere. |
Deleting your data
In Profile, tap Delete Account & Data. This removes everything from your iPhone and your iCloud backup straight away, and stops partner sharing. Deleting the app also removes the data stored on that phone. Data you allowed Iris to write to Apple Health stays in Health until you delete it there.
Children
Iris is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and the app tells you.
